These date balls are an excellent alternative to cake for Tea Time. They are made in less than 20 minutes, a super easy and nutritious treat…
Besides being quite delicious they also have a lovely calming effect on the nervous system. They are also excellent when you need extra brain energy and clarity. The vitamin B1 thiamine which is present in the nutritional yeast, is behind this effect. It will help the nervous system to calm itself, as well as boosting energy if the body needs that.
B1 usually helps to reduce anxiety and a jittery feel within. So it’s an excellent thing to use natural non fortified nutritional yeast in a treat like this, for kids and adults alike. This is one of the treats I make for our Tea time, those days where we don’t bake something.
Kids can easily help out making them, by pressing the pulse button “that always seems to be a hit in our house”, they can knead the dough and roll the balls, so this is a nice treat to make together even with little ones. It works well for all attention spans, without causing stress.
These date balls have a lovely taste of chocolate and blueberry “not like the ones you buy, they are so much better!”.
We haven’t added sugars, nuts, coconut or aromas. So they should be friendly to most of us. Everything is natural and much cheaper than buying prepacked date bars in the store.
So let’s get started!

Chocolate & Blueberry Date Balls
Equipment
- 1 Mini Food Processor (I use the 3.5 Cup Mini Food Chopper from KitchenAid for this)
Ingredients
- 300 g Pitted Dates (I use organic unsweetened and seed oil free dates like medjoul or deglet)
- 35 g Dried Juicy Blueberries (I use the ones that have been dried with the use of unsweetened apple juice instead of sugar and seed oils, be aware of that when you buy dried fruits in general)
- 3 tbsp Cacao Powder (unsweetened)
- ¼ tsp Vanilla Seeds (This is equivalent to 1/4 of a Vanilla Bean or 1/2 tsp of Vanilla Powder)
- 1 tbsp Natural Non Fortified Nutritional Yeast (Sari Foods make a GMO free Non fortified one)
- 1 pinch Fleur de sel (or another unrefined fine salt)
- 3 tbsp Chopped Chocolate 100% (I use the Unsweetened Chocolate Baking Bars 100% Cacao from Guittard. I chop them up on my kitchen aid 3.5 food processor)
Instructions
- Add the pitted dates to the food processor and pulse until they become like this.
- When the dates are ready add the blueberries. vanilla, cacao, salt and nutritional yeast. Pulse until combined.
- Add the chocolate and pulse until combined.
- When it looks like this, transfer the dough to a mixing bowl and knead it by hand until it becomes smooth enough to roll.
- When it looks like this it's ready to roll, roll 16 balls around 27g a piece if you like your balls to look extra delish, this is also a good way to teach kids to measure on a scale and to read numbers.
- Serve with Tea or Raw milk and remember to Enjoy!
Notes
Enjoy making this easy Tea time treat. You can multiply the recipe if you like to make a bigger batch, it will work just fine, the most important thing is not to over process the date dough, it’s nice you can see pieces of blueberry and chocolate in your bars. If you have any questions just ask in the comments below. Have a blessed day!
Much Love in Christ
